1 Million Construction Jobs Lost Under Obama

Four years ago, Senator Barack Obama promised that if he was elected, he would create thousands of new construction jobs. When he was inaugurated, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a total of
6,558,000 construction jobs.

Obama’s immediate action to boost construction jobs and just jobs in general was to push through the first stimulus bill. At the time he signed the bill in February 2009, construction jobs dropped to 6,448,000 and Obama told the crowd in Denver:

“Because we know we can’t build our economic future on the transportation and information networks of the past, we are remaking the American landscape with the largest new investment in our nation’s infrastructure since Eisenhower built an Interstate Highway System in the 1950s.

“Because of this investment, nearly 400,000 men and women will go to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, repairing our faulty dams and levees, bringing critical broadband connections to businesses and homes in nearly every community in America, upgrading mass transit, building high-speed rail lines that will improve travel and commerce throughout our nation.”

That stimulus bill cost American taxpayers $833 billion dollars. As of September 2012, that huge chunk of change had resulted in a loss of 925,000 jobs from the time it went into effect. The bottom line is that since Obama was sworn into office, the total number of construction jobs created was a MINUS 1,035,000.

I’ve seen homes and businesses that were under construction, sitting idle and unfinished several years later. I know construction workers who are flipping burgers and stocking shelves in stores because they can’t find any construction work. As far as they’re concerned that $833 billion stimulus was worthless and never accomplished half of what it was supposed to.

Obama and Biden want you to think that you’re better off now than you were four years, but there is a million construction workers that aren’t buying into it and neither should you.
